My treatment modalities are Cognitive behaviour Therapy and Systemic Family Therapy. This includes ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) a type of cognitive therapy which focuses on mindfulness and a way of managing uncomfortable thoughts and feelings).
If problems are severe, I may recommend specialist assessment and referral on to a local CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) Service.
I also work with PACT ( Parents and Children Together) who provide therapeutic support for adoptive children and their parents
Children and Young People are most effectively helped through Parents only, Parents and Child, or Family sessions.
Sometimes it is helpful to see a child or young person alone for 1 or 2 sessions. However, as a general rule I do not meet with children under the age of 12, without parents. Children above the age of 12 may benefit from a more extended period of treatment by themselves. Sometimes it is counterproductive to see children and young people until parents only have had some sessions.
